For Nic Hop, it all started at the age of 12 when he discovered Elvis. He soon started to buy everything relating to the Hillbilly Cat he could get his hands on, and it wasn’t long before he was diagnosed with an incurable form of rock’n’roll fever – all thanks to the likes of the greats of the golden age, such as Gene Vincent, Chuck Berry, Bill Haley, Buddy Holly or Little Richard (to name but a few). As if this wasn’t bad enough, Nic Hop contracted the boogie disease which saw him starting to dig rockabilly, hillbilly, rhythm’n’blues and doo wop.
Being “born too late”, Nic Hop didn’t live through the revival years of the 1970s and 80s, but he is nonetheless a huge admirer of the bands of the era, like Crazy Cavan, Matchbox, Flying Saucers, or the Riot Rockers.
His show, “At the Hop”, which will air fortnightly, will bring the best of all these genres, and hopefully help spread the big beat manifesto!
